Boys Birthday Gift?

My soon-to-be 8yr old son is having a birthday party…. He doesn’t play with any toys and doesn’t ask for anything for his birthday besides money to spend on vacation…Last year, on his invitations, he wrote “I love gift cards”. Is it appropriate to write “I prefer cash gifts” on his invitations this year? Any toys he receives will never be played with.
Is there another way to word this request?

Tell them to get him gift card to places like Wal-Mart. Then you just let him cash them in to you for his spending money and that way nobodys feelings get hurt. I personally wouldnt have a problem giving an eight year old cash in a card. If he doesnt play with toys I wouldnt want to waste mmy money on something he wouldnt enjoy. I would much rather give him money or a gift card so he can take it on vacation and buy something really cool with it!!
